My goals for this course were to learn more about the structure
and logic of JavaScript coding and this course provided that information.
- KP - 2nd March 2003
I learned a lot. Wonderful and very responsive instructors. Chantal is very patient. Roy's lectures are to the point. I enjoyed the class very much and intend to take more Javascript classes with them. - MH - 28th February 2003
I found it very challenging. it made me think and plan creatively, which is exactly what a programming language course should do. While not giving actual solutions to the problems I had, the instuctors answers to my questions lead me to reason in the right direction and solve the problem myself. This enhances the learning experience tremendously. - GM - 25th February 2003
Often introductory courses just go by the book and are pretty thin. This course was taught to give us the ability to actually make use of the language at this time - that's good. I wanted to be able to better understand and not screw up scripts that I use. Now, I can do better than that. - EG - 23rd February 2003
This is the third course I have taken through the IWA/HWG. It was by far the best in regards to instructors responding quickly to questions and assignments. - WM - 17th February 2003
This course was more than I expected. The teachers weekly lectures and assignments was very well written and easy to understand. It really filled the blanks in my JavaScript understanding. - LR - 16th February 2003
I have really really enjoyed this class! The instructors are well-organized, they obviously know what they are doing, they explain things clearly, and are extremely patient. SUPER CLASS! - SH - 10th February 2003
The lectures were very simple, easy to understand, and highly explanatory. Roy did not "spoon feed" us but he had sufficient information and hints that helped significantly. - TA - 25th December 2002
This course was much harder than I thought. This is good because I had to work hard to understand all the concepts. I realized scripting is much different than just doing HTML. - MD - 22nd October 2002
It was much more challenging than I expected. I'll need to work more with scripting, getting more comfortable with it, before I go onto the next course. - LF - 22nd October 2002
I really appreciated the flexibility with regards to assignments and due dates. This made the course/tutors seem human, esp when you consider the nature of web based training and peoples 9 to 5 commitments, plus kids etc. Thanks again all your help and patience. - TK - 21st October 2002
I wanted to be able to program in Javascript. I feel I now have the basic skills necessary to do this but know I have a lot to learn. I really learned how important it is to test your code on different browsers. - DS - 15th October 2002
I realized in the last two weeks of the class that I had learned a lot, and the best part was finding that I'd developed confidence in writing Javascript. TA Susan was extremely helpful. She provided clear, useful reviews of my homework. - 14th October 2002
I am a school teacher and former steel worker. I know the difference between
school classes and apprentice instruction. The latter would be appropriate
for this venue.
That propriety was met admirably by HWG. - PF - 4th October 2002
Of the three classes I've taken through HWG so far, this one flowed best. I was able to keep up with the assignments and understand the material completely before moving on - DF - 24th August 2002
Allowing 8 weeks for the 6-week class was a lifesaver. I have very much enjoyed this class, and I feel much better grounded in Javascript - CB - 19th August 2002
This class was exactly what I was looking for - JG - 11th August 2002
In this class the teacher and assistant were more helpful than I would ever have expected, Roy and Chantal were great I would gladly take another class that either one was involved in. - JR - 2nd July 2002
I had tried to learn JavaScript on my own, but it never clicked, but after taking this class I think I have a pretty good grasp of the introductory concepts. I really like how Chantel was always so friendly and constructive with her suggestions. - JK - 16th June 2002
Roy has a sense of humor and his and Chantal's interest in the work of the students was quite evident and encouraging. - CZ - 15th June 2002
I've learned more JavaScript in this course than all of the books I have on the subject. Mainly because it was taught in layman terms which made it far easier to grasp. I'll definitely take the next series if I can. - JU - 7th May 2000
Just to thank Roy and Susan. Susan especially for being a patient person. - SC - 5th May 2002
Susan's assistance was of a very high order - and I thank her for that. Her patience is exemplary - she made the whole difference to a course that is not easy. - EN - 6th Mar 2002
I felt this was a good course to take online and really learned a lot about JavaScript. I now have a basic understanding of this programing language and want to thank the instructors for their time and help. - EK - 3rd Mar 2002
Very enjoyable class, thanks to Roy and Susan for their help. MD - 26th Feb 2002
I can't wait to take the Intermediate class soon. - BB - 21st Feb 2002
I found that this course was very well organised, perhaps the most organised of any course I have taken through HWG. Usually in these courses I find the instructors get so bogged down by assignments and questions and such that they are often weeks behind in their marking. In this course, however, when a questions or an assignment was posted it was dealt with right away..which meant you never moved on to the next week without knowing your results from the previous week. This made it 10 times easier to complete everything! - JB - 20th Feb 2002
Thoroughly enjoyed it and am actually going to inflict more of in on myself - CW - 19th Feb 2002
I really enjoyed this class. - JG - 18th Feb 2002
I appreciated Roy's behind the scene interaction and Chantal's helpful hints in handling assignments. Definitely a dynamic duo!! - BK - 2nd Jan 2002
I had a working knowledge of JavaScript, but I found out there's a lot I didn't know about it! - RT - 29th Dec 2001
I enjoyed the class and the instructors. The answers to questions and grading of assignments was very prompt. I was grateful for that. - MM - 16th Dec 2001

Chantal gets a 'Hall of Fame' ranking for all of her helpfulness and putting up with cranky frustrated people. - JK - 28th Feb 2002
Assignments are very good & improve problem-solving skills. - RT - 27th Feb 2002
Thank you for a challenging course. I learned more than I thought I could. - PV - 2nd Oct 2001
Thanks for a great course. I enjoyed working on the projects and learned a great deal I can apply to my everyday work. - MG - 16th Sep 2001
Chantal was an excellent instructor. Not only did she answer questions promptly and grade assignments almost immediately, but her patience and understanding were impeccable. At the point when most people would start getting frustrated, she instead encouraged more feedback so that she could better assist the person that was having difficulty. - SS - 10th Sep 2001
Intense and demanding course. I learned a great deal. - WW - 9th June 2001
I found I-Ching the TA very approachable and more than helpful so I would give her a 9, but I must say that I didn't have much to do with Roy. But having said that the assignments were well rounded and achievable within the timelimits. - JR - 30th May 2001

Good course. Productive for me - MJ - 12th June 2003
I have two comments - LP - 13th December 2002
1. This completes the last of the Javascript series of classes I've taken through the HWG. Before these classes, I could only use javascript code written by someone else. So my websites were limited to whatever scripts I could find and adapt online. Now, after these three Javascript classes, I can dream up whatever I want my websites to do and feel confident that I can write my own code to make it happen.
2. While I'm working on each week's assignment, most of my interactions are
with Chantal, the TA for the course. I also read her interactions with the
other students. I'd just like to pass along compliments to her for the patience,
tact, and helpfulness she has displayed throughout the series of Javascript
courses.
What a challenging class! I really learned alot. Thank you. - RT - 12th May 2002
Thanks for a good course. I learned a lot. - DV - 4th May 2002
Had a lot of fun. I'm going to keep working on that Cat & Mouse game to finish it all. - JM - 22nd Dec 2001
Thanks for a great class Roy and Clinton. I think I had to push my limits more than once! - CI - 4th June 2001
